THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WANTED TO PRACTICE NIGHT LANDINGS. HE MADE ON SUCCESSFUL TOUCH AND GO LANDING. ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT HE WENT LOW ON FINAL AND STRUCK THE TOP OF TREES SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. A VASI WAS IN PLACE ON THE LANDING RUNWAY.THE PILOT HAD FLOWN 6 HRS IN 1983 ALL IN THE PRECEDING 30 DAYS. THIS WAS HIS FIRST NIGHT FLIGHT. HE HAD NOT BEEN ENDOREDFOR SOLO IN THE PRECEDING 90 DAYS.
