On July 5, 2012, a Boeing 747-400, HL7473, operated by Korean Air Lines Co., Ltd., as flight KAL2711, departed from the Gimpo International Airport (GMP), Seoul, South Korea, en route to the Tokyo International Airport (HND), Tokyo, Japan. Approximately 100 miles north-northwest of HND, the airplane encountered turbulence which resulted in a serious injury to a passenger. The airplane landed at HND without further incident. The event is being investigated by the Japan Transport Safety Board (JTSB). The NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative as the State of Manufacture under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13.
